human- a word whose etymology leads us to the word humus "earth." Return back to earthly organic living, make everything ourselves, grow everything we need to eat, use surplus for renovations, clothes, etc. Self sustainable living.
Read this article about a girl who grew up on a commune, what she has to say about the emphasis on technology in the 90's and 21st century. A record number of people are ordering seeds this year, did you know this? There was a news article about it the other day, that people are started to garden more then ever before.
There is this cohousing movement thats very interesting as well. I like the idealist utopian movement. You would be surprised just how many communes, eco-villages, co-ops and co-housing groups are sprouting up around the US.

utopia...
ReplyDeleteI would hate to live in any kind of communal place. Regardless how good the ideals are.
If you want to go green - you can do that in your own house. I think you would also hate that someone decide things for you. There are enough rules in life we have to follow. At list want to be private in my home.
But I like the idea of growing your own vegetables.
I wonder how your vegetables would grow.
If I was better at it I would like to have a lemon tree at home AND Have my own lemons for the tea :)
a community is great though. imagine what it would be like if you knew your neighbors? if you had people to ask for favors, like to take you to the airport, or feed your cat when you were away? and as for rules, they are decided as a group. these people live together and do things together, some have lots of rules, some groups have no rules at all except non-violence and moral kindness.
ReplyDeletewell that's why it is a utopia.
ReplyDeleteIt just seem that good rules so you would like to live by this rules. But think about it. Where will you have the border of what kind of rules to impose. For example if you make a rule not to litter - it's good. Right. So most of people would vote. But what is they decide to save money and have everyone in the community clean once a week and have schedule like that. Do you want someone to decide when you clean? May be you want to hire someone to clean your yard. Of cause you would say there would be exceptions and options to make other arrangements, but would you really want to call and talk about how to arange this or that situation.
Yes, nice to know nebors if you want to know. But for me MOST important would be privace. If I want I will go out and find people to socialize - don't need to be a nebor for that.
